THE KIND OF PHOTOGRAPHER I AM, RANDOM THINGS I LOVE (AND MY PET HATE!)
During my 20-plus years in the industry, I’ve worn a lot more photography hats, but now two are just fine! So here are some of the things I don’t do:
Weddings. Honestly, I take my hat off to all those brilliant wedding photographers out there - I always found it way too stressful
Families. I used to do these, but it takes a lot of energy to chase small people around!
Events
Grip and grins
Products
Pets (help!)
In a previous corporate existence, I spent 7 years in various jobs I just wasn’t meant to do and that were so not "me". But as a photographer, I only do work that makes me feel good - because if I feel good about what I do, so will my clients, whether I’m taking their headshots or teaching them how to use their camera. Either way, I pour my heart and soul into giving them the best experience possible. Life is way too short to waste it on doing things that don't fulfil you.
AM I THE RIGHT HEADSHOT PHOTOGRAPHER FOR YOU?
Here for headshots? Then let’s chat if:
You want a photographer who’ll take the time to get to know you and find out about your work and the type of industry you work in
You appreciate that a good headshot requires planning and preparation
You’d like to receive outfit tips and other advice before your session so that by the time you’re in front of the camera, you’ll look and feel your absolute best
You’re worried about looking natural in front of the camera, and want the reassurance of knowing that the photographer will guide you every step of the way and make the whole experience enjoyable and non-intimidating
You don’t want to visit a studio and sit under harsh lights in front of a stark white backdrop
You currently have an out-of-date or non-professional headshot as your profile
You’d like to be able to bring along a selection of outfits for a mix of casual and smart options
BUT ... I'm definitely not the right headshot photographer for you if:
You need a passport photo
You want to turn up, have a couple of shots taken, and then go
You're happy with a selfie
You work for an organisation who want all their staff photos to look consistent in style (if your company already use a photographer, please check that my photos will match the style of theirs)
You need headshots taken at your place of work or your home - I have a venue that I use specifically for all my work, which makes it much easier to plan my sessions and find the best light
You need your photos tomorrow

WHO AM I? (Random Facts About Me)
Here are some of the things I love the most: I refuse to say I’m “passionate” about them (yawn). I think that word should be expunged from every company’s website – it’s become totally meaningless through overuse and I never believe it!
The Repair Shop Since I discovered this TV gem, it’s become my favourite programme ever. The kindness, the skill, that beautiful setting, and the exquisite filming – completely heartwarming, and pure balm for the soul. |
The Sea Nothing beats a coastal walk along a Cornish clifftop or gazing across the estuary at Bosham, listening to the seabirds and watching the boats come and go. |
Plant and Flower Photography During the pandemic, photographing plants became a regular activity for me – and I've never stopped. It gets me outside and transports me to a completely different world of tiny details. |
Ancient Buildings As the daughter of an architect, unsurprising, perhaps. Nothing draws me like an old building. Just talk to me about jettying, fan vaulting, coffered ceilings or open-string staircases, and I'll be all ears! Favourite style of architecture - Arts & Crafts. |
Reading (mainly fiction) Any bookshop will do – new, secondhand (especially – who knows what you might unearth?), a stall at a jumble sale – you name it, I’ll always stop and browse. Favourite authors – too many to list, but Penelope Lively is up there near the top. Favourite genres – Golden Age crime fiction and late 19th/early 20th century women’s fiction (Persephone Books are wonderful.) |
THIS Peanut Butter! I have this every morning on toast. It is simply delicious, and the sine qua non of my breakfast table. From “before” to “after” doesn’t take long! |
PET HATES
Well, aside from the word "passionate" used to sell anything, I loathe portmanteau words – jeggings, coatigan, shacket, and worst of all – slanket – ugh!! If I ever had to ask for any of these in a shop, I’d take the Alan Bennett approach. Thank goodness for online shopping!
