Disappointing Photos Do you own a fancy camera but feel that your photos could be SO MUCH BETTER? Are you frustrated when they turn out blurry, too dark, too bright, or just not how you'd hoped? |
Complete Camera Confusion Do you want to master the important controls, without having to wade through the whole of the manual? Has all that technical jargon scrambled your brain so you've left the camera on Auto? |
Information Overload You've disappeared down a million YouTube rabbit holes trying to understand which button does what and why! There's just so much information - how can you tell which is good or bad? |
If You Answered "Yes", You're Not Alone!
Owning a fancy camera is SO exciting! At last you'll be able to capture:
- Professional-looking portraits of your family and friends.
- Gorgeous landscapes in your favourite places.
- Stunning nature and wildlife images.
- Impressive shots of architecture.
- Dramatic action shots.
Except, that's not what usually happens ...
- Somehow, when you press the shutter, the results don't live up to your expectations at all.
- The camera doesn't behave as you expected it to and sometimes does weird things!
- You don't know what this button's for or that dial.
- Your photos look so ORDINARY, or else they come out blurry, too bright/dark or out of focus, and you've absolutely no idea why.
- In short, the results are nothing like what you were hoping for at all - your phone does a much better job!
It's tempting at this stage to:
- Give up in despair.
- Just leave the camera on Auto and trust it to do a good job.
- Stick it in the back of a cupboard :)
- Search desperately online for the answers, and end up feeling overwhelmed by all the information out there.
- Use your phone instead.
But it doesn't have to be this way!
Can you imagine knowing PRECISELY how to set up your camera in ANY SITUATION and for ANY SUBJECT? Just like a professional?
How would that transform the quality of your photography and the pleasure you got from your camera?
THE POWER OF LEARNING JUST ONE THING (PROPERLY) AT A TIME
Have you noticed how much choice we have in our lives? From breakfast cereal to toothpaste to coffee, the sheer number of options available is mind-boggling. And when it comes to learning photography it's no different - there's a ton of paid and free stuff out there, (including this course) which is great - sometimes. The trouble is that if you don't know where to start, it can quickly become overwhelming.
So what would happen if you just learned one camera function at a time, and learned it really well? And what would happen if you could put all those functions together like a jigsaw to form a repeatable system for photographing your favourite things? Wouldn't that feel so much better than just randomly twiddling the controls and "hoping" for the best?
Because once you have a system, that's when the magic happens. Mastering photography isn't about learning everything all at once in any old order; it's about learning the right things in the right order and then practising.
COMPLETE PHOTOGRAPHY BEGINNER?
THEN YOU NEED LESS INFORMATION, NOT MORE!
Imagine having your first driving lesson and being bombarded with information about gaskets, axles, tailpipes and alternators - that's not going to help you get from A to B!
The truth is that if we're learning something new, the last thing we need is to get bogged down in every single detail right at the beginning of our journey.
We just need the right amount of information on the right subjects and taught in the right order, to propel us forward.
But this information needs to be precise and very clear; and it should tell us exactly how to make progress. Then as we learn, we can add to our knowledge in stages.
If this sounds like music to your ears, then maybe I can help?

WHAT STUDENTS SAY
"I'm loving the course. I particularly like how I can read the words after watching your video. It helps me to process the information better. The course is exactly what I believed I wanted - to get off auto and understand how it all works on manual!" Phil
"I have been working through your course and watching your videos over and over again to get things to stick! Although I knew some of the basics it has been so helpful to go over it all again and it made much more sense this time. I had previously been advised to steer clear of Manual but have now had the confidence to give it a go and discovered that it is not that difficult as your camera still helps out with exposure." Val
"My camera was a gift from my son after a college degree achievement in my late 50`s. I only ever used it in auto mode and never understood the other settings!! This course has helped me so much in understanding what can be achieved with lots of practice!!!! I have gained confidence in moving off auto and will look forward to experimenting with various settings to get the best from my camera." Jim

MEET YOUR TEACHER
Hello, Confused Camera Owner!
I teach struggling photography beginners how to use their cameras properly without overwhelming them with fluff or unnecessary jargon.
Graduating from Kent University in 1983, and now!
I'm Anna Saverimuttu, and in case you're wondering about my surname, it's Sri Lankan - the other half of me is Malaysian!
I've been a professional photographer for over 20 years, and have also helped hundreds of confused beginners just like you to get their cameras off Auto so they can really start to enjoy their photography. You can read some of their testimonials on this page.
I'm obsessed with flower photography and also love second-hand bookshops, long walks, the sea, old buildings,The Repair Shop (how I LOVE that programme!), baking, Earl Grey tea, and cats! I'm also a firm believer in saying "no" to anything that doesn't bring me joy - life is too short.

What You'll Learn
The secret to precise focusing to ensure your photos are pin-sharp.
How to take photos with beautiful blurred backgrounds, whether you're into portraits, plants, products or details.
The different ways to capture action - deliberately freeze or blur subject movement.
Ways to avoid unintentionally blurry photos.
How to make the most of low-light photography without using your camera's flash.
How to correctly expose your photos (no more accidental under or over-exposure)
Techniques for creatively manipulating the exposure to achieve different effects.
How to shoot in both semi-automatic and full manual modes.
BUT IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?
Naturally, you're protected by my 100% money-back guarantee. But let's just double-check that my course is right for you.
If you're already using manual mode, are confident about the semi-automatic settings, altering exposure and focus, and you're generally happy with your photos, then this course probably won't be right for you.
The same applies if you're more into the technical stuff, you want to learn one specific type of photography (e.g. photojournalism, sport etc) or you're looking for a recognised qualification in photography.
And if you're expecting a course that is specific to your particular camera, this is not that course. There are so many different makes and model of camera out there for a start - far too many to address individually. And it's not necessary; using the detailed information in each of the videos, you'll easily be able to find the controls that are referred to.
CAN YOU RELATE TO ANY OF THESE?
Your camera's been stuck on Auto since forever!
You've just bought a new camera and have absolutely no idea where to start.
Everything's a bit hit-and-miss. You’re not sure what you’re doing wrong. And when you do take a great shot, you're not sure what you're doing right!
You learn better by watching and listening than by reading long screeds of dull, uninspiring information. (Think of me as a much more user-friendly version of your manual!)
You prefer to learn in your own time and at your own pace.
You hate tech-speak and jargon. You want something SIMPLE.
You've picked up bits and pieces of information over the years, but have never been able to piece the whole jigsaw together.
You want a repeatable system at your fingertips so you know EXACTLY how to adjust the controls for any photographic situation.
You’re exhausted with searching online in hundreds of different places for the information you need. You'd rather have one place that you can go to for everything.
You're contemplating becoming a pro, and you understand the importance of mastering the basics before anything else.
Recognise any of the above? Then this course will be a good fit!
IS IT WORTH IT?
Master Your Camera costs £95 - that's a fraction of the cost of a new camera. If yours is currently set to Auto or you're just not using it properly, then you're wasting 99% of its functions. So can you currently justify what you paid for it?
Although this course is short compared to a lot of others, I guarantee that if you follow it through step by step, you'll be equipped with the confidence and knowledge to start shooting in exactly the same way as a professional. That doesn't mean it's easy - there's no silver bullet when it comes to being a good photographer; you'll have to practise lots and work hard on your technique. But it does mean that you'll finally have a proper system at your fingertips for photographing anything - and most importantly, you'll be getting your money's worth out of your camera.
FAQ'S
If your questions aren't answered below, please feel free to get in touch, and I'll do my best to help!
There's no start or end time. As soon as you've made your payment, you're automatically enrolled on the course. You can now watch the videos whenever and wherever you like and get unlimited access to the materials. This means it's perfect for fitting around your schedule as you can replay any sections as and when required if you need to refresh your memory on a particular function.
If you're already shooting quite confidently in Manual or either of the semi-automatic modes, and are pleased with the results, then this course is probably not going to be suitable for you.
Any make of DSLR, bridge or mirrorless camera is suitable. The only cameras which wouldn't be suitable are the really tiny point-and-shoot ones. If you're not sure about your camera, please get in touch and I'll be happy to answer your questions.
You complete the course in your own time, so it just depends on you really. Lots of people find they like to go over the material several times to make sure they really understand things before moving on to the next lesson.
That's absolutely fine. If you don't feel the course provides value, as long as you let me know within 21 days of enrolling, I'll refund your payment in full, no questions asked!
No, it's not an academic course. It's purely for beginners who want to understand exactly how to use their cameras so they can improve the standard of their photography.
No, because it's not necessary. The way the course is taught means that for each particular function, I will tell you exactly what you need to refer to in your camera's manual. You'll then know how to set that function up for your own camera. Many of the controls are very similar, so even though there are so many makes and models of camera out there, it's a bit like learning to drive a car - you don't need separate lessons depending on the type of car!
